More than 320,000 people have collected free reusable menstrual products from pharmacies in the first month of a Catalan government campaign.

The number who have registered online to order menstrual cups, cloth pads and absorbent underwear is even higher, more than half a million, 532,871 to be precise, according to Catalan Equality Minister Tània Verge.

"This shows how necessary it was to make progress in guaranteeing the right to menstrual equity," Verge said on Friday.

"Being able to talk openly and in a communal way about menstrual health, about first periods and the climacteric, about staying healthy during the menstrual cycle, and overcoming taboos – this is the feminist transformation," Verge said.

The campaign, called 'My Period, My Rules,' is being led by the Catalan equality ministry, which says it is the first of its kind in the world.

The products can be picked up at any pharmacy in Catalonia by scanning a QR code found in the 'La Meva Salut' app.
