14-year-old dies after lake jump in central Catalonia
Friends called emergency services after teen did not come out of water in Sant Fruitós de Bages
Catalan firefighters have recovered the body of a 14-year-old who had jumped into a small lake in the central municipality of Sant Fruitós de Bages, known as 'El Gorg dels Tres Salts.'
Emergency services received the warning at 11:20 am after the teenager's friends called when he did not come out of the water. The group of students had no lessons on Friday and decided to go out for a swim.
Nine different firefighter units were deployed with 20 firefighters, including subaquatic units and a helicopter.
The lake has a depth of five meters.
The body was found at 12:30 pm but it was not possible to resuscitate the boy. Emergency services have offered psychologists to help the family, friends, and the rescue team who assisted in the search.
