Spain is the ninth worst country in the EU in terms of citizens' perception of corruption.

This is according to an index made by Transparency International (TI), an NGO which aims to prevent and combat corruption.

Spain got 58 out of 100 points in this ranking, 100 being a "very clean" country and 0 a "highly corrupt" one.

"Full democracies" register on average 75 points in this index, while "faulty" ones average 49 points, with any mark below 35 being considered "autocratic" regimes.

"Regardless of whether [Spain] is a full democracy or a faulty one, in terms of corruption it is obvious that progress needs to be made," has said Carl Dolan, the director of TI in Europe, to the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
