The Spanish PM, Pedro Sánchez, has announced that the government will launch a €60 monthly public transport ticket covering Rodalies commuter trains, medium-distance trains, and the bus network.

The ticket will be valid nationwide and will come into effect on January 15.

The government announced that the fees will be €60 per person, with those under 26 years, paying €30.

"The way we understand and use public transport will change forever," Sánchez said on Monday during his year-end press conference at Moncloa, the government's headquarters.

The measure will be approved during the last cabinet meeting of the year. Authorities will keep the current financial aid for transport passes.

"The ticket pass will be ready from mid-January for all public transport networks mentioned, but we hope that, slowly, we can include more regional and local networks," Sánchez said during the speech.

Those interested will have to acquire the ticket through the normal systems in place to obtain the regular passes, such as online or in-person at transport stations.

Youngsters will need to register online at the Spanish Transports Ministry website to receive a code to get a 50% discount.

Barcelona's Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) tickets already combine local bus, metro, Rodalies and FGC commuter trains, and TRAM. One person can use the same ticket for all these modes of transport.

However, the ticket does not allow travel on Renfe's medium-distance trains or high-speed trains. It does not include long-distance bus trips.

The new ticket will "combine" with the current ATMs across Catalonia, aside from Barcelona's, there are also in Lleida, Girona, and Tarragona, as confirmed by the Catalan territory ministry.

The Catalan government is working to allow the compatibility of both systems from the second semester of 2026. This way, it will be possible to access trains and buses, such as the T-Mobilitat already does.

Almost a year ago, transport minister Óscar Puente announced the plans to establish a system that would include several transports.
