Barcelona to help Ukraine reconstruction as part of European project
Catalan capital chosen by European Commission to advise on Mykolaiv regeneration project

Barcelona will help Ukraine in its reconstruction as part of the European project SUN4Ukraine.
The Catalan capital was chosen by the European Commission to help in the regeneration project for the Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv.
The project promotes climate neutrality in the reconstruction strategies of the Ukrainian cities.
The Barcelona City Council will help by sharing practical experience in areas such as climate adaptation and mitigation, clean energy and mobility, climate action financing, citizen involvement, and urban development.
SUN4Ukraine is made up of 12 European cities, so-called 'mission cities'. Each of them will be responsible for advising a Ukrainian city.
Munich and Oslo will act as special mentor cities for all 12 Ukrainian municipalities, thus strengthening the SUN4Ukraine knowledge transfer program.
The partnerships have been based on the needs and strengths of each of the participating cities, taking into account their size, economic profile, climate priorities and pre-existing links.
At the end of the 18-month partnership programme, SUN4Ukraine will establish a Ukrainian Cities Climate Hub and all Ukrainian municipalities that have expressed interest in the project will be invited to join. The Hub will be a platform for Mission cities and Ukrainian cities to share ideas and good practices and collectively shape a climate resilient and sustainable future.
Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni welcomed the selection of Barcelona by the European Commission, as this “reaffirms the recognition of Barcelona as a pioneering city."
“We are very pleased to be able to share our learnings and experience with Mykolaiv to address two important challenges, reconstruction and climate change,” said Collboni.
