All travelers coming to Spain from India will have to quarantine for ten days upon arrival as authorities are concerned about the threat of a new Covid-19 variant discovered in the country.

The measure was announced by Spanish government spokesperson María Jesús Montero on Tuesday and will become official on Wednesday.

Montero pointed out that the executive had previously restricted direct flights from countries such as Brazil and South Africa, but as there are no direct connections between Spain and India, the measure will focus on individuals rather than flights.

Medical Aid

At the same conference, it was announced that Spain is sending seven tonnes of medical aid to India, in response to the current wave of coronavirus that the country is suffering from.

The Spanish minister for Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya, said the shipment was a way to show "solidarity" and warned that, regarding the pandemic, "no one will be saved until we are all saved."

Compulsory quarantine

Any arrivals from the following countries must self-quarantine for ten days upon arrival to Spain. Otherwise, the traveler can leave quarantine after seven days if they take a PCR test that returns negative results. The UK was removed from this list on March 30.
