Quim Forn leaves prison to work in audiovisual production company
The jailed pro-independence leader was granted daytime prison leave and will work in the legal department of Mediapro
Quim Forn has left prison this morning to work in the audiovisual production company Mediapro.
Forn was one of the jailed pro-independence leaders to be granted a fixed number of hours leave per week in order to work. Specifically, the jailed leader can enjoy partial freedom for 12.5 hours a day, five days a week, returning to jail each night to sleep.
The Barcelona city councillor left the Lledoners penitentiary center this morning and will work in the legal department of the Mediapro company.
The former interior minister is the fourth of the jailed leaders to leave prison after using article 100.2 of the Spanish constitution.
He follows Jordi Cuixart, Carme Forcadell, and Dolors Bassa in being allowed to leave jail during the day.
Some of the leaders are allowed to do paid and voluntary work, while others were granted leave in order to look after elderly family members.
The decision to allow the jailed pro-independence leaders to leave for some hours during the day comes from article 100.2 in the Spanish constitution. According to the department of justice, 405 inmates invoke this article each year to apply for prison leave.
The applications are then sent to an advisory board consisting of jurists, psychologists, social workers and educators, doctors, and teachers. The constitutional article is applicable to prisoners who fall in the medium category sentencing, which all of the independence leaders are classified as.
