Three employees of Unipost, a postal service linked with the independence referendum, were expected to testify on Monday afternoon in the first day of the Catalan trial week 5.

The first one who gave testimony was Albert Planas, former head of production of the company in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

Unipost was hired by the Catalan government to send out referendum material ahead of the vote.

Their testimonies come after in the morning session, two former Catalan police officials testified.

One of them, Emili Quevedo, said that the police leader had urged the government twice to call off the referendum ahead of October 1, 2017, while the other one, Manuel Castellví, said the police did not expect violence during the 2017 referendum –something slightly different to what he said last Thursday.
