17-Mar-20: '€200 billion economic relief to deal with coronavirus impact'
<p><span id="docs-internal-guid-784a7193-7fff-9373-ee7a-4dcf882d5ccb"><span>Spain has announced a 200 billion euro plan with social and economic measures to deal with the coronavirus crisis. </span></span></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>A moratorium on mortgages, facilitation of temporary redundancies to avoid job losses, up to 100 million euro credit for companies, and extra efforts in research. These are some of the measures announced by Spain to ease the impact of covid-19 on firms, workers and the most vulnerable ones.</span></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>The Catalan government has also announced measures, including providing up to 2,000 euros for self-employed workers. The education authorities are preparing online material, as university entrance exams have been postponed. And meanwhile, the health department has already taken over private health.</span></p>
<p><span><span id="docs-internal-guid-87c4d509-7fff-0f4d-bfe5-7f7ec9ce8fb0"><span>Spain's government has rejected Catalonia's calls for a full confinement of residents, and a total lockdown, blocking ports, trains and airports. Yet, Quim Torra's government insists this is the only way out as Catalonia now has 1,866 confirmed cases and Spain as a whole has 11,178.</span></span></span></p>
