Superman's cape was made in Barcelona
Gratacós textile company specializes in party dresses and has already dressed up the 'Bridgerton,' 'Emily in Paris,' and Rosalía

Superman's cape is one of the most iconic figures of pop culture and cinema. For this year's movie, the unique red of the cape could only be found on a narrow street in Barcelona, just next to the cross of Diagonal Avenue and Passeig de Gràcia.
Located at the 9 Riera de Sant Miquel street in the neighborhood of Gràcia, the Catalan company, Gratacós, has been in charge of dressing David Corenswet as Superman ahead of the movie's release in cinemas on Friday.
"One of our clients from New York called and said that one of our fabrics had been selected to be Superman's new cape," Aida Molano, head of communications at Gratacós, told Catalan News.
Their client "is very linked to Hollywood's cinema industry, but also to Broadway's musicals, and some years ago he had called Joan Gratacós" to tell him that the material had been selected.

Gratacós currently operates across 80 countries, and regardless of many thinking that the cape had been selected from a tender, it was a "client who trusted us, and had already trusted us many times in the past," Molano told this media outlet.
Superman's cape, portrayed by David Corenswet, is made of the red fabric Ebro 38 from the Catalan business. In fact, this is "one of the most sold clothes from the company, and they were interested because of the color, the weight, the form," Molano explained.

50 meters
Producers bought around 50 meters of Ebro 38 between four and five years ago. It was "not only for a cape, but several."
"In cinema, and especially in this type of large cinematic productions, a lot of things happen as things get burned, get dirty, therefore they sew several capes."
Molano also said that Superman now has a dog, and the "dog also wears a cape, I do not know if they used the same fabric sold here, but probably yes."
The 'Bridgerton' and 'Emily in Paris'
Aside from Superman, Gratacós has also worked on several other "dresses made for movies, series, operas, or such as Emily in Paris."
In that case, Aida Molano explained that "characters wear firm clothes that are also Gratacós' clients, therefore the fabric ends up appearing on-screen indirectly." Meanwhile, the last season of the Netflix hit, Bridgerton, saw several characters wearing fabrics from Gratacós, and although not 100% confirmed, actors will wear fabrics from the Catalan firm "next season."

In Barcelona, one of the major entertainment clients is the city's Liceu opera hall. Aside from movies, TV shows, and live staged events, Gratacós has also dressed up dozens of famous people, including Catalan singer Rosalía.
