Royal guards, 18th century maidens, and horses fill Girona for filming of Disney's live-action 'Tangled'

The city of Girona has been transformed into the fictional city of Corona for the filming of Disney's live-action remake of 'Tangled,' the story of Rapunzel.

Several men dressed as guards and some maids have found their way to the Girona Cathedral for filming. 

The film will feature 500 extras who will bring the original animated film to life with the hopes of being seen on screen by 2028. 

The Plaça dels Apòstols is now an improvised stable for houses for Monday, July 27's, filming, while the main stage is the front Girona Cathedral. 

While filming happened at the cathedral, the Disney team continued to set up other scenes at the ascent of Sant Domènec or at the Plaça dels Jurats. 

The hill of Sant Domènec is already adorned with blue banners with the golden sun in the middle and the stairs lined with market stalls. The stairs now feature a carpet in the middle and decorations on the steps to remake the fictional city of Corona. 

Plaça dels Jurats is also transformed into a market with several stalls and tables and chairs. There are several flags with the symbol of the fictional kingdom. Additionally, on the walls of the Museum of Archeology of Catalonia there is the mosaic of the king and the lost princess. 

Several fans of the film sit waiting at the access points in hopes of catching a glimpse of the main actors arriving on set. The fans wait for the arrival of actors such as Kathryn Hahn, Milo Manheim, Diego Luna and Taegan Croft.

Two of these fans arrived at the cathedral at eight in the morning, hoping to get to see the stars of the movie. 

Sandra and Clàudia traveled from Blanes on Monday, July 27, and said they left "very early" with hopes of obtaining a signature from the stars. 

Estela, a young girl who came from Barcelona with her mother, came to the cathedral dressed as the princess Rapunzel, who she is a big fan of. 

Many fictional guards, as well as maids and other nobles from the kingdom arrived to set via different routes, allowing many hopeful fans to catch a glimpse of the action Monday morning. 

Filming of the live-action 'Tangled' will be in Girona until August 3, with Besalú in Garrotxa to be home to the next scenes.
