PortAventura has contributed €17bn to Catalan GDP since its opening in 1995
A study cites that the largest amusement park has a labor impact of 10,439 annual jobs

Catalonia's largest amusement park, PortAventura World, has contributed €17.2 billion to the Catalan GDP since it opened its doors in 1995, according to a study by the PwC consulting firm unveiled this week.
Annually, according to the study, the impact has been around €600 million, and 92% of this revenue remains in the area of Tarragona.
The document quantifies, for the first time, the "real" financial and labor impacts of the amusement complex over the last 30 years.
Since opening its doors, the amusement park has welcomed over 109 million visitors, "becoming a place to go" in Europe. The report highlights the importance of the park being open 307 days a year, which has been crucial to deseasonalize the tourist season in the Costa Daurada area.
PortAventura World has invested, according to the same report, around €1.8 billion since the first day, and has an average labor impact of 10,439 jobs each year. Most of these employment opportunities (91%) are based in the Tarragona area.
Earlier in 2025, the amusement park celebrated its 30th anniversary by dispelling rumors of a sale. Officials during the event backed the resort's future growth plans and denied rumors that Universal wanted to buy the resort.
