Plaça Rovira took this year's first prize in the Festes de Gràcia decorations contest, in an award ceremony that took place on Wednesday evening.

Their decorations were titled 'Batiscafo Rovirukas', and were a tribute to Antònia Font's 2006 album 'Batiscafo Katiuskas'.

In second place was Carrer Mozart, with their enchanted greenhouse, while the podium was completed by Carrer Llibertat, with their Lord of the Rings themed assembly.

The head of decoration of Plaça Rovira, Eva Arroyo, told the Catalan News Agency that the album being honoured in their decorations is a "soundtrack" of her generation.

"There were streets that had monumental figures, but we knew that the square had turned out very beautiful for us," she said.

The album 'Batiscafo Katiuscas' was published twenty years ago this year, and the decorations revolve around the seabed, as explained to the Catalan News Agency by neighbour Roman Demchuk. "This year the most repeated element is these hanging circles, which simulate the sea," he said.

In fact, the ceiling of this place contains more than 9,000 strips. Demchuk also acknowledged that the challenge of the square is that “it has a lot of surface area” that needs to be covered and a way must be found that is “easy” and colorful.

In second place was Carrer Mozart with 'The Enchanted Greenhouse', inspired by the shade of the Ciutadella Park when it was converted into a ballroom, a "magical space" full of vegetation, colors and fantastic elements.

Third place was for Carrer Llibertat's homage to the Lord of the Rings saga, which was jointly created by five committees. In fact, they took home one of the jury's special mentions, for understanding and coordination, along with carrers Progrés, Tordera, Fraternitat de Dalt and Fraternitat de Baix.

The other two special mentions for the theme were the recognition of the historical memory of Carrer Ciudad Real, which remembered reprisals against female writers, and Carrers Sant Pere Màrtir and Jesús for the gender perspective in the its decoration.
