Dedicated to the intersection of art and technology, the New Art Centre will open its doors in the southern Catalan city of Reus next week.

Located on Constantí road, the 3000-square meter space will house exhibitions, workshops, storage, and an audiovisual and conference room.

The center is a project of the Reus-based New Art Foundation, supported by both public and private funding.

With the new space, the foundation will focus on supporting artists and conserving works that challenge artistic convention through technologically innovative practices.

As artistic director Vicente Matallana explained, technology-based art can easily be lost as it is often developed with specialized software that makes it difficult to conserve.

In addition to stewardship, conservation, and restoration of work, the center also wants to serve as a hub and meeting place for artists.

"The NAC helps the artist with infrastructure, economic and material resources, services, and a forum where they can meet and debate", explained NAF founder and president Andreu Rodríguez.

The New Art Centre will be officially inaugurated Thursday and will open to the public October 9, with goals of between 12,000 and 15,000 annual visitors. Guided tours will run until December, at a price of €14. Visitors will also be able to walk through the center's workshops and storage areas.

"It's like entering a restaurant's kitchen," Matallana said.

The inaugural exhibition, Hello World, will feature around 30 works spanning 60 years from NAF's collection.
