The Catalan coastline with spaces available for dogs grows by four to kick off the 2026 summer with 50 beaches. Similar to last year's 45 beaches, this summer 62% of the coastal municipalities will allow dogs.

This summer season is looking at changes which include the addition of Vila-Seca on the list of municipalities with dog beaches, as well as a temporary closure of the dog beach in Cubelles due to construction in the area that will last until the summer of 2027.

Tarragona will also add an additional beach for dogs this summer, meaning there will be two beaches available for pets for the first time. Llarga and Miracle will be accessible for dogs this summer.

La Selva, which includes Blanes, Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, continues to be the only county without at least one dog beach. However, Maresme, north of Barcelona, continues to have 80% of their beaches allowing dogs with 13 of their 16 beaches.

Most beaches have extensive access all day, while select beaches have restrictions on access for those with pets. Sant Pol de Mar in Maresme for example, reserves dog access from 8 pm until 8 am.

Alternatively, Altafulla in Tarragonès allows dog access from 7 am until 8.30 am and again from 10 pm until 12:30 am. While La Platjola beach has restrictions on Easter and June 15 - September 15, only allowing dogs from 11 am until 6 pm

27 shoreline municipalities in Catalonia do not welcome dogs at all during the summer, though this shifts for the colder seasons.

Blanes, the southernmost town of Costa Brava, participated in a pilot test this winter. The program was carried out on the beach in the center.

Ultimately, the city council decided not to extend the program into the busier summer season, though it will return in the fall.
