The Geminid meteor shower will peak during the weekend of December 13 and 14 across Catalonia.

Experts believe it could be even better than the annual Perseid meteor shower seen in August.

The astronomical phenomenon started on December 4 and will last until December 20, but it will be most visible this weekend, with up to 150 meteors per hour reaching speeds of up to 35 kilometers per second.

Saturday night will be the best night to watch the spectacle, as the waning crescent moon will let us easily see the most meteors around 3:00 am CET.

To enjoy the meteor show at its best, it is recommended to go to areas without light pollution, such as the Pyrenees or the pre-Pyrenees mountainous areas.

Residents near the Barcelona and Cerdanyola del Vallès areas will need to keep in mind that access to mountainous areas, such as Collserola mountain, is restricted due to the African swine fever outbreak.
