Epiphany holiday marked by extreme cold with temperatures as low as -12ºC

Inland regions woke up to below 0º, with harsh winter landscape in places like Espinelves

The forecasts of extremely low temperatures this Tuesday, the day of the Epiphany, January 6 bank holiday, have come to pass.

Parts of inland Catalonia woke up to temperatures below 0ºC, while the harsh frost on the coast was also noticeable.

The record low temperatures were recorded in Das (Cerdanya) and Prades (Baix Camp), with the thermometer reading -12.7ºC and -12.5ºC respectively.

Frosts have appeared in different parts of the territory, such as in the area around Espinelves (Osona) where in the early hours they were at -3 ºC.

In Vic, the cold dipped to -1.5 ºC. "The Kings knew it would be cold and they brought me a hat," one local, Sara, explained to the Catalan News Agency.
