Catalonia is the second Spanish region with most bars and restaurants exceeding 42,000 establishments. Meanwhile, Spain consolidates its position as the country with the highest density of bars per inhabitant worldwide.
Throughout the country there are around 184,430 bars, representing one bar for every 175 people, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Catalonia, disregarding the density per inhabitant, is the second-largest community with bars counting a total of 42,894, just behind Andalusia ranking first with 49,271.
Barcelona is the city with more bars within Catalonia with over 10,000 bars and restaurants, according to the Barcelona Restoration Guide 2024.
Meanwhile, the search for restaurants with terraces has grown up to 41% compared with previous years, according to The Fork study.
At the same time, Girona positions as the second-largest province with the highest percentage number of terraces and rooftops in bars and restaurants, just behind Seville.
