Blanes saw a firey return to action on the second night of the Costa Brava International Fireworks Competition on Thursday night.

After the rain forced the suspension of several events on Wednesday and the first show to be brought forward by about ten minutes, this Thursday it was the turn of the company Pirotècnia Valenciana, one of the favorites to win the competition and take it for the fifth consecutive time.

The Valencians put on an 18-minute show with a climax that sparked loud applause from the gathered audience, many of whom travelled from beyond Blanes to witness the show.

At 11.30 pm, the first rocket took to the skies. From that moment on, nearly 600kg of pyrotechnics lit up the night sky on the northern Catalan coast.

Thousands of people came to see one of the most anticipated shows of the 53rd Blanes fireworks competition.

"We have to take risks and the rain is one of them, but the result is really worth it," says Manuel Crespo, head of the Valencian company.

He told the Catalan News Agency that apart from the prestige that comes with winning "one of the most renowned fireworks competitions in Europe," the satisfaction of the "work that goes behind it is the great reward."

With the arrival of the weekend, thousands more people are expected to flock to Blanes to see the shows each night.

There will be fireworks contests on view for free on the beach in Blanes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
