Aena to invest €153 million in full renovation of Barcelona Airport's T2 by 2031
Overhaul includes upgrades to interior and exterior spaces, and revamped facade.

Aena, the company that owns and manages Barcelona-El Prat Airport is set to invest €153.4 million in a complete renovation of the T2 terminal.
The renovation works and investments will take place between 2027 and 2031.
The airport's director, Eva Valenzuela said "these are very important actions," at a press conference on Friday.
She compared the renovation to the work carried out for the Olympic Games in 1992.
The €153.4 million will go toward upgrading the interior and exterior spaces of the terminal, as well as expanding the area before the security checks.
The additional space before the security area will be created by rearranging the railway access to the terminal and incorporating more screening systems that allow liquids and electronic devices to be kept inside hand luggage.
Valenzuela explained that this is a bottleneck at the terminal and updating it will be key to improving passenger flow.
The modernisation project will also add a new entrance and the reorganisation of the roads and pedestrian routes around the building.
The exterior of the terminal will be upgraded using better materials for energy efficiency.
The space surrounding the building will also be modernised with new roads, pedestrian routes and green areas for visitors. The outdoor parking lot in front of T2A will also open.
The project will integrate and reopen module A, an area currently only used for arrivals. This space will be reincorporated into the terminal's usual operations.
The upgrades to the airport do not include plans to expand the capacity of the facilities.
The work done will be implemented without disrupting the airport's usual operations.
