Hollywood stars photo exhibition on at Girona's cinema museum
Show comprises of a hundred portraits of iconic male actors, following success of last year's display on female performers
Girona's cinema museum has debuted the 'Actors Icònics' exhibition, open until April 25, 2021. It comprises 100 portraits of iconic male Hollywood actors, many of them autographed.
Jordi Dorca, the curator of this display, has also accompanied the portraits with a quotation from each of the performers regarding fame or acting. Dorca stated that the comments were “contradictory”, with some of them upholding the importance of their profession, whilst others undermine it.
It comes as the second part in a series of exhibitions, sourced from the museum’s Vincenç Arroyo collection. Last year the museum held '(Actrius) Icòniques', an exhibit showing portraits of famous Hollywood female performers.
Vincenç Arroyo began to cede these works to the museum two years ago, which included 14,000 photos, 2000 programs, 1,500 handwritten autographs and 300 books and other objects related to cinema.
Dorca described the collection as one of the most important the museum had ever received.
The museum director, Jordi Pons, emphasized the importance of the exhibition in teaching the younger generation about iconic actors such as Marlon Brando, Groucho Marx and Charlie Chaplin. However, classic Hollywood actors will also be joined by more modern faces in this exhibition such as Leonardo DiCaprio.
A third part to this series is already in the works. There are talks of an exposition displaying pictures of famous supporting actors. However, this will not be available until at least 2022.
