At 6.2 billion euros, Catalan exports fell by 0.6% last November, compared to the same month the year before, according to figures from Spain's economy ministry.

Sales abroad from Catalonia made up 25% of all exports from Spain, say the figures released on Tuesday, which at 25 billion euros, fell by 0.9% in November.

November's dip in exports contrasts with the 5.2% rise in October, when foreign sales amounted to seven billion euros and made up 26.3% of all such sales from Spain.

2.8% increase from January to November

Yet so far, exports from Catalonia went up overall last year, with a 2.8% increase in foreign sales (€68bn) registered from January to the end of November.

In Catalonia, exports went up by 22% in the northern region of Girona, accounting for 544 million euros, and rose 3% (€169m) in the western region of Lleida.

However, those figures were offset by a 2.7% drop, or 4.6 billion euros, in the Barcelona area, and a fall of 1.9% (€869m) in the southern region of Tarragona.

November's main exports were chemical products (up 4% to €1.6bn), followed by capital goods (down 1.5% to €1bn), and food, drink and tobacco products (up 15% to €953m).
