Valladolid Street has won this year’s decoration contest at the Sants neighborhood festival in Barcelona.

The winners were announced on Monday night, following the festival’s opening weekend. Valladolid Street claimed first place with 336 points for its theme inspired by the universe of Jules Verne.

The title passes from last year’s winner, Finlandia Street, which this year took second place with 331 points and an enchanted forest theme. Third place went to Papin Street, which recreated a potters’ kiln and scored 328 points.

Other participating streets featured themes ranging from the circus, to the centenary of the Barcelona metro, to Catalan traditions.

The Festes de Sants are among Barcelona’s most popular neighborhood festivals, comparable to the city’s famous Gràcia festival.

From August 23 to 31, the streets of this central neighborhood are filled with colorful decorations, with a total of 11 streets and squares taking part this year.
