Espai Inmersa in Barcelona's Poblenou neighbourhood is home to a new exhibition: "Titanic. The Official Exhibition" recreates the spaces of the ocean liner that sank in 1912. It will be open to visitors until September 28.

The exhibition includes more than 200 original objects recovered from the wreck site and covers a 3,000 square meter space, featuring exhibition halls, an immersive room, recreations and a virtual reality area.

The exhibition takes visitors back in time to the moment when the transatlantic liner sank. Director of RMS Titanic Inc, Tomasina Ray, explained in a statement to the Catalan News Agency (ACN), that they want to share these artifacts, so the public can get close to them. The exhibition serves as a way to "keep the memory of the passengers alive," says Ray.

The visit begins with receiving a boarding pass with the name of a real passenger. Later on, the visitor arrives at a hall where they can check if the name assigned to their boarding pass appears on the list of "lost" or "saved".

RMS Titanic Inc have managed to recover 5,000 objects, as a result of nine expeditions to the shipwreck. "Titanic. The Official Exhibition" displays 200 of them. Objects vary from different personal items like wristwatches and suitcases, to tableware and the ship’s anchor buoys.

The tour continues to an iceberg, inviting visitors to touch it and experience the feel of the real ice mass. An immersive room and a virtual reality (VR) area transport visitors to the moment of the sinking. Using VR goggles, they can take a trip to the ship’s wreck and also experience the sinking process.

Barcelona is the first city to host all three elements together: the exhibition halls, the immersive room, and the VR room. Tickets are available online.
