Thousands of people lined up in Girona's Devesa park on Monday to take part in an open casting call for extras in Disney's live-action production 'Tangled', based on the Rapunzel story. Interest quickly defied expectations, with the casting team aiming to recruit between 1,500 and 2,000 people for the shoot.

The first hopefuls arrived at the doors at 11 a.m. on Sunday and spent the night outdoors to secure a spot. By early Monday morning, more than a hundred people were already waiting, with the line continuing to grow throughout the day.

At its peak, the line stretched more than two kilometers.

Doors opened just before 10 a.m., and candidates were ushered inside in small groups. The process was straightforward: applicants had to fill out a form with basic personal details, have their photo taken, and were added to a database.

Some were asked about specific skills that might fit particular roles before being sent home to wait for a response.

The queue included applicants from across Spain, including Andalusia, Murcia, Valencia, and the Canary Islands.

Among the first in line were two people from Madrid who had waited nearly 24 hours for a process that took less than half an hour. Others, like Erick from Toledo, drove through the night to arrive early.

The production marks Disney's first live-action adaptation of its 2010 animated film, with several exterior scenes set to be filmed in Girona.

Many attendees said they were longtime fans of the original movie. Some came prepared, having rewatched it in advance, while others arrived in medieval-style costumes.

One applicant, Dina Serra, dressed to look like Rapunzel, noting her short haircut matched the character at one point in the story. Others showcased long blonde hair in hopes of landing roles as doubles.

Organizers said they would try to accommodate everyone, either in person or online, and were considering offering a digital submission option for those unable to be seen.

The film will star Australian Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and American Milo Manheim as her co-lead.
