Barcelona concert for Palestine capped by Rosalía surprise

30 artists including Bad Gyal, Morad and Tinariwen take to Palau Sant Jordi stage in culminating event of Act x Palestine campaign

Around 30 artists took to the stage at Barcelona's Palau Sant Jordi on Thursday night for a solidarity concert for Palestine, the culminating event of the Act x Palestine campaign.

The appearance of the likes of Rosalía, Bad Gyal and Amaia drew deafening roars of approval from the thousands gathered.

Rosalía's surprise appearance thrilled the audience as she performed one of the most popular songs from her latest album, Lux: La Perla.

The line-up brought together artists including Morad, Oques Grasses, Mushka, Lluís Llach, Fermín Muguruza, and Yerai Cortés.

It featured international performers such as Tinariwen, travelling from Mali, and France’s Zaho de Sagazan.

Also at the heart of the event, however, were Palestinian voices, including Zeyne and Lina Makoul.

After months of mobilisation across Catalonia, the 'concert–manifesto' marks the culmination of the Act x Palestine campaign.

The initiative has been promoted by leading Palestinian human rights, humanitarian aid and cultural organisations, in collaboration with a broad network of European organisations.

Two choirs also took part. One is the Al-Balad Choir (People’s Choir), created especially for the match between the Catalan and Palestinian national teams held last November at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

The other was the Ovidi Cor Gran Choir, with the quartet Ovidi 4 joined on stage by Anna Mira, Feliu Ventura, Ginestà, La Maria, Pinan 450f, Sandra Monfort, Sergi Carbonell and Svetlana.

As well as the music, the night featured speeches and videos highlighting the struggles and resilience of Palestinians.

All proceeds from the concert will go towards promoting and rebuilding cultural projects in Gaza and the the West Bank.
