’Sirât’, by Oliver Laxe, nominated at the BAFTA Awards
Catalan co-production to compete against films from Brazil, Norway, Tunisia and France in the same category

The Catalan co-production ‘Sirât’ has been nominated for Best Non-English Language Film at the 79th BAFTA Awards.
It will compete in this category against ‘It Was Just An Accident’ (France), ‘The Secret Agent’ (Brazil), ‘Sentimental Value’ (Norway), and ‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’ (Tunisia).
Coincidentally, the five finalists for Best Non-English Language Film at the BAFTAs are the same films competing for Best International Feature Film category at this year's Oscars, where "Sirât" won Best Feature Film and Best Sound.
This BAFTA nod is the latest in the film's award journey.
Despite finishing the Golden Globes race without any accolades, the movie received the Jury Prize at the Cannes Festival.
The movie was directed by Óliver Laxe, born in Paris to Galician parents, and studied at Barcelona's Pompeu Fabra University.
The film is a co-production from Catalonia and Spain, starring Sergi López, and was released in cinemas last June. It tells the journey of a father and his son to find their daughter at a rave in the Moroccan mountains.
The BAFTA award is given by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. The ceremony will be held on February 22, 2026, in London.
