Catalan singer Rosalía was nominated for Record of the Year at the 24th Latin Grammy Awards for the song 'Despechá,' but against all odds, the award went to Mexican singer Natalia Lafourcade for her hit 'De todas las flores'.

The ceremony was held in Seville, Spain, on November 17. It was the first time the awards were presented outside the United States.

Lafourcade bested other nominees Rosalía, Christina Aguilera, Pablo Alborán, Paula Arenas and Jesús Navarro, Bizarrap and Shakira, Fonseca and Juan Luís Guerra, Karol G., Lasso, Maluma and Marc Anthony, and Alejandro Sanz and Danny Ocean.

Karol G won the Latin Grammy for Best Album for 'Mañana será otro día', and the Song of the Year award went to Shakira and Bizarrap for their viral Session 52.

Rosalía kicked off the show with a flamenco adaptation of Rocío Jurado's song 'Se nos rompió el amor'. The ceremony was attended by numerous celebrities, including actor Antonio Banderas, DJ David Guetta, singers Maluma and Karol G, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, and Spanish soccer players Sergio Ramos and Marc Bartra.

The Sant Esteve Sesrovires singer has 12 Latin Grammys and two Grammys. She won the Album of the Year award twice, for 'El Mal Querer' in 2019 and 'Motomami' in 2022, becoming the first artist to win the prize two times.

Rosalia's music journey

Rosalía Vila was born in 1992 in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, on the outskirts of Barcelona. She discovered music at a very young age, and at 18, she began her studies in flamenco music at the College of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC).

In February 2017, Rosalía released her first album, 'Los Ángeles,' with musician Raul Refree. The album had such an impact that she was nominated as Best Artist at the Latin Grammy Awards that same year, although she did not win.

Rosalía rose to fame with the album 'El mal querer,' which she released in 2018 to great acclaim. The album was an experimental and conceptual project, in which she combined traditional and modern styles. The first single from the album, 'Malamente,' earned her two Latin Grammys.

In 2022, Rosalía released her third studio album 'Motomami', which was so successful it catapulted her internationally, becoming the most influential Spanish singer in recent years.
