'Romería' starts as a favorite at Gaudí film awards with 13 nominations, followed by 'Sirât' with 12
'Deaf' will compete for 10 honours, while 'Strange River' and 'Frontier' each have 8 nominations

Carla Simón's latest work, 'Romería', will start off as the big favourite at the next edition of the Gaudí film awards, nominated for a total of 13 awards.
Filmmaker Simón celebrated the nominations, telling the Catalan News Agency that it is a recognition of the entire team that worked on the film.
"It was time to reframe the memory", she said about the film that focuses on the history of a "silenced" generation, that of her parents.
'Romería' is closely followed by the Catalan co-production 'Sirât', by Oliver Laxe, with 12 nominations at the Catalan cinema academy awards.
Eva Libertad's 'Deaf' will also be a strong contender, up for 10 awards, while 'Strange River', by Jaume Claret Muxart, and 'Frontier', by Judith Colell, both have eight.
Miriam Porté, a producer behind 'Deaf', expressed her belief that the success comes from explaining a "reality" that the public had not considered.
Meanwhile, 'Afternoons of Solitude', by Albert Serra, becomes the most nominated documentary in the history of the awards, with six.
The 18th Gaudí Awards will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, for the first ever time at the Liceu Opera Hall.
Before the announcement of the nominees, Judith Colell, who is also president of the Catalan Film Academy, said there was an "extraordinary" crop of works to select from this year.
One of the headline figures of the nominations is found in the gender balance of the finalists, with a 52% female presence in the different categories.
Up for Best Film this year are 'Join Me for Breakfast' by Iván Morales; 'Strange River', by Jaume Claret Muxart; 'Frontier', by Judith Colell; 'Away', by Gerard Oms, and 'Wolfgang', by Javier Ruiz Caldera.
And in the category of Best Film in a non-Catalan Language: 'The Exiles', by Belén Funes; 'Romería', by Carla Simón; 'Sirât', by Oliver Laxe, and 'Deaf', by Eva Libertad.
