The co-director of Primavera Sound, Alberto Guijarro, has warned that the future of the festival could be in danger if the maritime platform used by the festival cannot be used for major events after the waterfront redevelopment of the coast that he says the city council is planning.

He was speaking on Thursday at a meeting organized by Barcelona Open on the impact of major events in the Catalan capital.

The marine platform, popularly known as the 'Mordor' esplanade, is where the two main stages of the festival have been located in recent years.

The space should be used for hosting large events, Guijarro said. "There are many events that need a space like this, without this space, the festival will not be able to take place in the city."

With politicians soon planning how the platform will be used, "it's time to convince them" Guijarro said, that it must be a space for large events, since it can accommodate more than 60,000 people.
