The US Netflix streaming service premiered a highly anticipated Spanish movie on Friday. 'Bird Box Barcelona' takes place in a post-apocalyptic Catalan capital and is an expansion of the original 2018 post-apocalyptic thriller 'Bird Box,' starring Sandra Bullock.

During the movie, spectators will recognize different landscapes from the city, such as the Plaça de Catalunya square with a destroyed bus in the middle and many wrecks around. But also areas such as Barceloneta beach with the W hotel in front and a cruise half-sunk.

But the most recognizable parts are the Eixample neighborhood streets grid, seen from the skies, as the trailer shows.

In the new installment, Sebastian (Mario Casas) must navigate his survival journey through the desolate streets of Barcelona after a mysterious force decimates the world’s population.

As he forms uneasy alliances with other survivors and they try to escape the city, an unexpected and even more sinister threat grows.

The movie is directed by brothers Àlex and David Pastor and starred by Casas, Georgina Campbell, Naila Schuberth, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia.

It is not the first time the Pastor brothers have set a film in a deserted Barcelona. Their 2013 film 'The Last Days' explored a similar scenario.
