Barcelona (CNA).- The Festival “Mas i Mas,” which has suffused August nights in Barcelona with music since 2003, is still a complete success. Joan Mas, director of the festival, said in an interview with the Catalan News Agency that the next edition will incorporate rock music as well as a wide variety of classical music, jazz, soul and flamenco. Mas also announced that next year concerts will also take place in all the venues in which the festival is taking place this year, including the chamber room of the Palau de la Música Catalana. With almost 10,000 tickets sales per week, Mas confesses that they “can’t believe” the current festival’s success.

The next Mas i Mas Festival in Barcelona will put the spotlight on rock music. The director personally believes that the festival is not only working, but wants to continue growing and the public seem to agree. From September on, the Moog hall, which is currently being used for electronic music only, will become the rock music venue. According to Mas, this hall will be used by local and foreign groups during the year. He also suggested that use of the Moog Hall in August will pave the way for even better rock concerts and effective planning.

Over the last seven years, the festival has grown in space and musical variety. It was originally dedicated exclusively to jazz. Mas said that the festival “has always been full and all the tickets sold out.” He stressed, however, that this year the number of performances has increased –three every day in Palau de la Música and six per day at the Tarantos. Despite this, the events continue to be a sell-out.

“It is beautiful to see how the city of Barcelona responds,” says Mas. The promoter of the festival also explained that all the venues (the Auditori, Pedrera, Jamboree, Palau de la Música, Tarantos, Luz de Gas and Moog) will also be used for the next festival.

When asked why the festival is such a success, Mas stated that one key factor is that, “there’s little [other] musical activity in Barcelona during the month of August,” a month in which people “want to have fun.” He also said that the ticket prices are affordable (around 8 euros on average).

With great music of all varieties, good prices and fabulous venues, the festival has a lot to recommend it.
