Over 110,000 attend spectacular Piromusical to close Barcelona's La Mercè
Fireworks lit up the sky over Maria Cristina Avenue, accompanied for the first time in years by the waters of the Magic Fountain

Over 110,000 people gathered on Maria Cristina Avenue in Barcelona on Sunday to witness the spectacular finale of the La Mercè festivities: the Piromusical.
Fireworks lit up the city’s sky, accompanied by dazzling colors from the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc and a music selection curated by the Cornellà-born brothers of Estopa.
The duo described their setlist as “a childhood car trip,” they told Catalan News just moments before the show began.

The music opened with a track by Extremoduro and included classics from Janis Joplin, AC/DC, Los Chichos, Albert Pla, and Camarón de la Isla, among others, all artists the brothers consider personal references.
“We wanted to build momentum, starting slow and ending big,” Estopa explained. “It was a difficult task, choosing and cutting the tracks so they would fit together.”
Naturally, Estopa’s own hits featured in the performance, with some of their most iconic songs closing the show.

For the occasion, they also premiered a new Catalan-language rumba titled Camila, a collaboration with local duo The Tyets, which was released the same day.
In the creative process, Estopa chose the songs and then passed them on to the pyrotechnics team.
“We receive the setlist and then design how the show will look, first through sketches and later with 3D models,” explained Albert Rovira, head of the Piromusical’s pyrotechnics, to Catalan News.

A key highlight this year was the return of the Magic Fountain’s water display, which had been inactive for three years due to drought and renovations.
“The fountain is always a complement to the show. It enhances the music and makes the performance feel more complete and synchronized,” Rovira added
Rovira described it as one of Catalonia’s “most spectacular” fireworks shows, using 1,400 kilograms of gunpowder and a total of 5,000 shots.
The display took place just a few meters from the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, where FC Barcelona had faced Real Sociedad earlier in the day.
Around 170,000 people were in the area, prompting police to implement a massive security operation to prevent incidents, though none occurred.
