La Mercè 2025, Barcelona's biggest public festival, will take place from September 23 to 28, with the program of festivities and this year’s novelties unveiled on Monday.

At a press conference in the Virreina Palace, culture councilor Xavier Marcé presented the main highlights of this year’s celebration.

La Mercè 2025 will feature 107 concerts, 80 street performances, and 55 traditional cultural events.

The activities will be spread across 26 venues in 8 districts of the city, with all events free of charge and accessible to everyone.

Fireworks show

One of the most anticipated moments will once again be the Piromusical, the fireworks and music show that traditionally closes the festivities.

Following Rosalía’s participation last year, this edition will be curated by the Catalan duo Estopa, known for their distinctive mix of rumba, pop rock and flamenco that has left its mark on several generations.

In a surprise announcement, brothers David and José Manuel Muñoz revealed that they will debut a new rumba song in Catalan for the occasion, featuring The Tyets.

“We saw Rosalía do the same last year, so we wanted to copy her,” they joked in their usual style.

Although they had promised not to give away spoilers, the brothers let slip that the setlist will include music by Extremoduro, Los Chichos, Albert Pla and Janis Joplin.

The show, which will last 30 minutes, will bring together several styles in what they described as a "meticulous and beautiful piece of work" prepared "with great care and affection," carefully selecting every fragment of every song that had shaped them and many others.

New venues

Several new venues will host La Mercè events this year, including Parc del Fòrum, Moll de la Fusta, Passeig de Gràcia, Reina Maria Cristina, and Park Güell.

Another highlight will be the return of the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc after three years of drought, during which it had remained inactive.

The fountain will once again be the centerpiece of the Piromusical on Sunday, September 28, closing the festivities on Avinguda Maria Cristina by Plaça Espanya.

Manchester, guest city

This year’s invited city is Manchester, which Marcé praised for its "deep involvement" in the collaboration, calling it one of the most committed in the history of La Mercè partnerships.

The program will include ten musical acts and ten street performances, some of them co-created by artists from both cities.

Among the highlights will be a concert by Queralt Lahoz and Werkha on Avinguda de la Catedral, the result of an artistic residency at Fabra i Coats.

Irish singer Ríoghnach Connolly will also perform with her band Honeyfeet, while Proj, considered one of the most exciting groups on the British music scene, will also appear.

The Mancunian duo Children of Zeus and Space Afrika, who bring influences from the African diaspora, will likewise take the stage.
