Oriol Junqueras, the former Catalan vice president who is serving a 13-year sentence for his role behind the 2017 independence referendum, has published a new book: 'Parlant amb tu d'amor i llibertat' ('Speaking to you of love and freedom').

Junqueras, who still is at the helm of the Esquerra Republicana party, believes that, despite being in jail, he can inspire people to come together so that future generations "will never again be sent to prison for defending the right to vote" on independence "and everyone's wellbeing."

In his book, the politician explains how the "enemies of democracy and the common good" have harmed those who "love and defend justice and freedom."

"Despite it all, we've never given up," Junqueras maintains, "which is why we're in prison again."

The politician's book addresses his love for his family as well as for world literature from a humanist and sentimental point of view.
