Rock legend Jack White, electronic dance group Hot Chip, and one of the biggest breakout stars of 2022, Rigoberta Bandini, were just some of the names that lit up the stages of Cruïlla on the third night of the music festival on Friday, and had fans dancing until the early hours of the morning.

According to festival organizers, around 21,000 enjoyed the third night of Cruïlla at Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona.

The former White Stripes frontman hasn’t lost an ounce of the energy he brings to his live performances. Four years after his last visit to Cruïlla, the singer and guitarist was one of the biggest names performing on Friday night, the night that offered fans the a taste of rock in its headliners, as Duran Duran, Hot Chip, Editors, Rigoberta Bandini and Sleaford Mods were also lined up.

UK indie group Editors returned to the festival they were originally meant to be performing at last year, plans that were scuppered at the last minute due to restrictions on international travel because of the pandemic. The alternative rock group demanded the attention of almost the entire festival to put on an energetic and electric set, including hits such as ‘Smokers outside the hospital doors,’ ‘Papillon,’ and ‘Munich.’

Hot Chip ensured that feet kept moving late into the night, a party always guaranteed when the electronic dance group are around, playing their hits as equally danceable as singable.

One of the breakout stars of 2022 has undoubtedly been Rigoberta Bandini. The Barcelona singer exploded to game when contesting the ‘Benidorm Fest,’ the televised musical competition to see who would represent Spain at this year’s Eurovision song contest. Although she ultimately wasn’t chosen for the continental stage, her feminist hit ‘Ay Mama!’ has become one of the songs of the summer in Catalonia and beyond.

She was another highlight of Cruïlla on Friday night, delighting fans before she embarks on her hiatus from stage performances that she surprisingly announced on Thursday

As has become customary in the last editions of Cruïlla, the festival also plays host to comedians giving stand-up sets. The Comedy program got underway on Friday with such names as Tomàs Fuentes, Raquel Hervás, Maria Rovira (Oye Sherman), Ignasi Taltavull, Modgi and Marc Sarrats.

Saturday, last night of the festival

The last night of Cruïlla, Saturday, July 9, will see the festival take on a more Latin pop, folk, and dancehall feel, as the festival shifts genre again.

Major international stars from South and Central America, as well as other European and local acts, will take to the stages to see out the final night.

Juan Luis Guerra, Rubén Blades, Rozalén, Seeed, Els Catarres, and Fat Freddy’s Drop are just some of the acts performing on Saturday in Parc del Fòrum.
