On Sant Jordi, people buy a book and rose for their loved ones at one of the many stands set up in the streets. There will also be activities all around the Catalan capital to celebrate this joyful day.

April 23, also known as St George's Day in English, is seen by many Catalans as one of the most important days of the year, celebrating love and literature.

There will be a total of 435 stands on the streets of Barcelona selling books and roses. This year also has the highest number of book signings by authors.

Many international authors will be there this year, such as Korean Won-Pyung Sohn, known for her 2017 literary debut 'Almond', but also Sari Arponen from Sweden and Mercedes Ron from Argentina, popular for 'My Fault' that became a Netflix adaptation.

British comedian and writer David Walliams will kick off the Sant Jordi celebrations on Monday, 6pm, at the Gabriel García Márquez library.
