The 24th edition of In-Edit, Barcelona's International Music Documentary Film Festival, opens on Thursday at Mooby Aribau Cinemas, presenting 71 films, 23 of which are world premieres.
The programme features documentaries about major musical figures including David Bowie, Pulp, Jordi Savall, the Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, NOFX, Sun Ra, Amadou & Mariam, Jack Johnson and Fermín Muguruza.
The festival will welcome nearly 170 guests and host 23 musical performances.
Among the directors presenting new work are Albert Serra, with Sixteen Moments of My Life; Carla Simón, with Flamenco; and Fernando Trueba, with Bajañí. The festival will also premiere Tempus Fugit, a short film dedicated to Catalan musician Jordi Savall.
In-Edit 2026 comprises 50 feature-length films, seven mid-length films and 14 shorts. The programme includes 23 world premieres, four European premieres, 25 Spanish premieres and 13 Catalan premieres. A total of 12 titles are debut works.
The festival opens on October 29 with Broken English, directed by Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth. The documentary explores Marianne Faithfull's life, legacy and memories through an imaginative blend of archival footage, interviews and fictionalised sequences, featuring Tilda Swinton and Nick Cave.
The closing film, screened on November 7, will be The Best Summer, directed by Tamra Davis. Drawing on previously unseen footage from the 1995–96 Summersault tour across Australia and Southeast Asia, the documentary captures the Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Beck, Bikini Kill and other alternative-rock acts onstage and backstage.
International highlights include Bowie: The Final Act, exploring the final chapter of David Bowie's career, and Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore?, narrated by frontman Jarvis Cocker.
Other films focus on French disco pioneer Cerrone, Earth, Wind & Fire – in a documentary directed by Questlove – pianist Yuja Wang and music critic Robert Christgau.
In-Edit Lab, the festival's programme supporting talent and professional development in the Catalan audiovisual industry, will host more than 10 activities, all free of charge.
