‘Anatomy of a Fall’ by French director Justine Triet won the Golden Globe for Best Non-English language film at Sunday's ceremony held in Los Angeles, California, leaving Catalan director J.A. Bayona empty-handed for his survival thriller ‘Society of the Snow.’

On the social media site X, formerly Twitter, the director said that despite not winning a Golden Globe, he was “happy” and grateful for “all the love we have received in these last days for the film.”

The Golden Globes are considered a forerunner to the Academy Awards, which will be held on March 10, 2024.

‘Society of the Snow’ is shortlisted for four Oscar nominations in the categories of Best International Feature Film, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, and Best Visual Effects.

The final Oscar nominations will be announced on January 23.

The thriller is also nominated for two awards in the Critics' Choice Awards in the categories of Best Foreign Language Film and Best Score. The Critics’ Choice Awards will be held on January 14.

Bayona is known for his previous feature films such as 'Lo Imposible,' 'A Monster Calls,' and 'The Orphanage'.

'Society of the Snow’ tells the story of what has been called the Miracle of the Andes, where over a dozen passengers of the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 survived for 72 days in the Valle de las Lágrimas valley between Chile and Argentina in October 1972.

The director received a 10-minute standing ovation when the movie was presented at the 2023 Venice Film Festival.

The film was shot in the Catalan city of Terrassa, in Spain's Sierra Nevada mountains, and in the Andes mountains.

The film is available to watch on Netflix and in cinemas.
