Cinema Lliure a la Platja - or 'free beach cinema' - returns to Barcelona on July 1 with a screening of 'Las Niñas' at CEM La Mar Bella starting at 9 pm. This year, exceptionally, Barcelona's screenings will take place not on the sand, but just beside it.

This year, the festival celebrates ten years of bringing cinema to the beaches of Catalonia.

For safety reasons, audience numbers will be limited and spots need to be booked a week in advance, and the first session is already at capacity.

Throughout the next six Thursday evenings in July and August, five different Catalan beaches will be host to a varied lineup of independent films, including 'La mort de Guillem,' 'Corpus Christi,' 'Ema,' and more.

As well as Barcelona's La Mar Bella, screenings will also take place on El Prat beach, Mataró, Palamós, and Tossa de Mar.

There will also be one family-friendly film shown, Dreambuilders, in its original English language but with Spanish subtitles.

For a complete look at the lineup and more information and where to book your spot, you can check the Cinema Lliure a la Platja website.
