Dalí Cybernetic Boulevard offers immersive walk through artist's visionary universe

The new exhibition Dalí Cybernetic Boulevard opened on Wednesday at Casa Amatller, offering an immersive journey into the mind of the legendary Figueres-born surrealist artist. 

Produced by Layers of Reality in collaboration with the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, the exhibition combines digital art, virtual reality, original objects, reproductions and audiovisual material to explore the relationship that Salvador Dalí had with science, technology, fashion, jewelry and design.

In statements to the Catalan News Agency, Jordi Sellas, director of IDEAL, described Dalí as a "total artist" and highlighted his ability to understand the link between art and technology. The exhibition will be open throughout 2026.

The tour begins with a reproduction of the iconic golden astronaut suit that Dalí designed in 1958 and continues with a tour of his predictions of the future, his collaborations with fashion figures and artifacts linked to the artist's life and work. 

Among the items on display are his original walking stick, the Eskimo Eclipse glasses by Courrèges, and a reproduction of the 1965 haute couture dress co-created with Christian Dior to represent the woman of the future.

The tour incorporates a virtual reality experience that allows visitors to navigate landscapes taken from Dalí's universe aboard a ship. The visit culminates in an immersive room, with a 25-minute audiovisual piece that reveals the hidden codes behind some of the artist's most emblematic paintings, from nuclear and quantum physics to sacred geometry and DNA. 

You can also see a restored and previously unseen, in color, projection of the 'Cybernetic Ballet,' a performance performed in 1966 at Park Güell with the Harkness Ballet company.

In addition, to mark the launch of Dalí Cybernetic Boulevard, a temporary outdoor art installation has been created on Passeig de Gràcia, where three large sculptures inspired by Salvador Dalí's famous eggs can be seen. The installation can be seen until September 22.

The name of the project comes from the fact that "Dalí used the term 'cybernetics' regularly," explains Sellas, who recalls that in the 1950s and 1960s it was used to talk about computing, networks and connectivity. 

The artist’s interest in cybernetics, Sellas adds, is a sign that "he was a person who was ahead of his time and who understood this link between art and technology in a different way."

According to Sellas, the new experience allows us to delve deeper into Dalí's relationship with "fashion, design, jewelry" and "mass media" that may be less well-known, but which contributes to offering a more complete image of the artist. 

"When you see it in its entirety, it makes you see a figure of Dalí who is absolutely multifaceted, interesting, funny and also very current and very much ours," he concludes.

Since its premiere in 2022, 'Cyber-Dalí' has visited more than fifteen cities around the world, including London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Athens, Riyadh, Tel Aviv, Lisbon, Porto, Warsaw and Valencia. 

The new proposal in Barcelona is intended to be long-lasting and seeks to turn the city into a new international reference point linked to Salvador Dalí.
