Barcelona's Palau de la Música to open new Via Laietana entrance

The Palau de la Música Catalana will open the doors to a new visitor entrance next fall.

The Nova Porta del Palau will be a welcoming space that connects the modernist building with downtown Barcelona. 

The location of the new door is on Via Laietana and is currently under construction. 

Once open, the location will introduce the public to the Palau – one of Barcelona's premier concert venues – by combining visitor services, exhibition spaces, shops and immersive experiences, including guided tours. 

Starting in November, the venue will be an immersive space, with a sonic experience added to the guided tours that currently exist. 

The space will be designed as a listening space, with a surround sound system and lighting that responds to the music and voices of the Orfeó Català, the chorus that is the soul of the Palau.

The need for new infrastructure for the Palau comes after years of growth in musical programming and visitors to the current location. 

In 2025, almost one million visitors passed through the Palau, an increase of 400,000 people in the last five years. 

The current set up for the Palau has the entrance to the building on Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt.

This new door will allow access to the building from Via Laietana, a much larger road. 

The president of the Palau de la Música Catalana, Joaquim Uriach, explained that with the new premises the Palau will no longer be "hidden."

"We want to be closer to the people and improve the environment. So the neighborhood breathes more culture," said Uriach. 

Starting in the fall the Palau will have two entrances, one from Via Laietana, and another from Carrer del Palau de la Música. 

The lease on two premises to make this project possible is for 20 years, and the budget for the renovations is €1.5 million.
