Barcelona theaters break records with 3 million spectators and €103 million in revenue

During the 2025-26 season, Barcelona theatres saw 3.17 million spectators throughout the year, 40,000 more than the previous season. 

The figure marks a new record in attendance and is the third consecutive season in which the attendance mark hit 3 million. 

Revenue exceeded over €103 million, an increase of 9.5%, and occupancy grew to 67%.

In Catalonia, theatres housed over 4 million spectators throughout the year, garnering over €115 million in revenue. 

Barcelona theaters performed 1,289 shows with a combined total of 13,196 performances. Just under half, 49%, were by Catalan authors, while 41% of the shows were performed in Catalan, 32% in Spanish, and 27% in other languages.

According to the Association of Theatre Companies of Catalonia (ADETCA), last season, theatres with a seating capacity up to 200 seats registered an “especially positive” growth, adding 421,865 spectators, 13% more than the previous season, and increased revenue up to €6.7 million, up 20% from the previous season. 

The data also shows an increase in young audiences.

Most popular shows in Barcelona

According to ADETCA, the Barcelona theatres that registered the most spectators were Teatre Tívoli, the Teatre Coliseum, the Teatre Victòria, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Teatre Goya. 

Among smaller theatres with fewer than 200 seats, the busiest were Teatre Muntaner, Teatre Texas, Sala Ars Teatre BCN, Sala Beckett, and Teatreneu Sala Cafè Teatre.

The most popular shows in larger theatres were El Mago Pop, at the Teatre Victòria; ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, at the Teatre Tívoli; ‘Improshow’, at the Teatreneu Sala X.F.; ‘L’amor venia amb taxi’, at the Teatre Romea; and ‘Hamlet – Albert Pla i Peyu’, at the Teatre Coliseum. 

In smaller theatres, the top five were ‘Corta el cable rojo’ at the Teatre Muntaner; ‘Permagel’, ‘Ovelles’, and ‘Desaparellats’ at the Espai Texas; and ‘Y no quedará ninguno’ at the Sala Ars Teatre BCN.
