Àngel Garcia wins Miravisions photojournalism award for coverage of Valencia floods
Bloomberg photographer wins for second consecutive year with powerful images capturing the horror and solidarity of tragedy

The photojournalist Àngel Garcia has won the fifth Miravisions Photojournalism Award for his coverage of the floods in Valencia.
His project, 'Chronicles from the Mud,' published by Associated Press and Bloomberg, was chosen by La Mira magazine for its powerful images of the November disaster.
This year’s awards were dominated by the floods, with the other two main prizes also recognizing work on the same events.
Second place went to Albert Garcia for 'Dana, a Tragedy Without Alerts,' published in El País newspaper.
His work depicts both the devastation caused by torrential rain and the efforts of emergency services.
Third prize was awarded to Germán Caballero for 'You Are Not Welcome,' published in Levante-EMV newspaper.
His photo series captured the visit of Spain’s King Felipe VI and Valencia president Carlos Mazón to one of the worst-hit towns, where residents, still reeling from the disaster, expressed their anger and frustration.

The jury included well-known photojournalists such as Jordi Borràs and Emilio Morenatti.
An honourable mention went to 'Our End, Our Hunger' by Marc Asensio, which documented the farmers’ protests across Catalonia in February 2024.
Another special mention recognised Ricard Novella for his work exploring the loneliness of hospital patients.
In the student category, Maria Limeres, from the Catalonia Institute of Photographic Studies (IEFC), won for 'Captain Fantastic,' a story about a man living alone on the margins of society.
