'Amazomania' named Best Film at DocsBarcelona 2026
Award for best Catalan film at the festival goes to 'The Travelers' by David Bingong

The award for best film at DocsBarcelona2026 goes to 'Amazomania' by Swedish filmmaker Nathan Grossman, a film that revisits the 1996 expedition to the Amazon and questions the colonial legacy.
The award for best Catalan film went to 'The Travelers', a film that accompanies a group of migrants on the border between Morocco and Spain as they wait to cross into Europe. It is directed by David Bingong, who shot the film during his own migratory journey.
DocsBarcelona presented its 29th edition of awards this Saturday at a ceremony at the Barcelona Contemporary Culture Centre (CCCB), after selling more than 12,300 tickets during the festival, 12% more than the previous year.
As for the rest of the awards, the special mention went to 'Das Deutsche Volk' by Marcin Wierzchowski, which reconstructs the racist attack in Hanau, Germany, through the testimony of survivors and relatives of the victims, exposing structural racism in contemporary Europe.
The Docs&Cat jury's special mention went to 'Bèstia', a portrait of three hunters from inland Catalonia that reflects on rural masculinity and the contradictions between tradition and a contemporary perspective. The documentary is the debut feature film by Helena Garza, an author linked to non-fiction and anthropological research.
Meanwhile, 'Corren las liebres' was the film most highly rated by the audience at DocsBarcelona. It follows the story of Noa, a trans gypsy woman who, after being released from prison, fights to regain custody of her children.
