Actor Sergi López extols 'awesome' Sirât ahead of Oscars
Catalan coproduction nominated for two Academy Awards in Los Angeles this weekend

Catalan actor Sergi López says he is "very happy" about the success of the film Sirât as it heads to the Academy Awards with two nominations.
Speaking to ACN a few days before the ceremony in Los Angeles, the film's protagonist said everything that has been happening with the movie "for a long time now is amazing."
The film has received two nominations for the 2026 Oscars: Best International Feature Film and Best Sound.
The actor said he finds it remarkable that a film like 'Sirât', which "proposes a certain reflection on the idea of death," has found audiences in countries such as Spain, France, Belgium, Morocco, Italy, and the United States.
"I find everything that's happening with this film incredible, the awards and the recognition it's receiving," he said, adding: "Now only the Oscars are left."
Despite the nominations, López said he is unsure about the film's chances of winning.
"If we win the Oscar, it will be awesome. If we don't, it won't be as awesome, but we certainly won't be complaining," he said.
Directed by Oliver Laxe, 'Sirât' follows a father who travels with his young son through a desert in the Moroccan mountains searching for his missing daughter, set against a backdrop of sand and rave parties.
The film is a co-production from Catalonia and Spain and was released in cinemas last June 2025.
