More women have reported gender-based violence this year than in 2020, say police

"More abuse reports have been filed [this year] and we've detected higher risk levels," Andrea Garcia, the head of the Victim Care and Monitoring Central Unit for the Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police, said, adding that "more women have accepted police protection."

Last year, during lockdown at the height of the pandemic, fewer victims of gender-based violence were able to seek assistance.
