17-Jan-22: 'Nightly curfew affecting 80% of population won't be extended'

<p><span id="docs-internal-guid-c33714fa-7fff-8b01-4af3-3384e9c12925"><span>The nightly curfew will come to an end this Friday. Given the slight upturn in some pandemic indicators, authorities have decided not to extend the restriction affecting around 80% of the Catalan population.</span></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><span>The current pandemic restrictions in place are set to expire on Thursday night and the government will not request an extension of the 1 am curfew. 50% of all of Catalonia&rsquo;s Covid cases recorded since the beginning of the pandemic have come in the last three months, but given the dominant Omicron strain has a lower impact on hospitals than Delta, authorities could also review the use of Covid passports too.</span></p> <p dir="ltr"><span>Proof of vaccination is now required if travelling to Spain as a tourist from Argentina, Canada and Australia. They have been added to the list that includes almost all countries, except for the EU and some 15 others.</span></p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-07d00b22-7fff-d7ed-eccc-5a91f5f0fff7"><span>2021 saw a rise in organ transplants, with 1,063, after a pandemic-related slump in 2020. </span></span></p> <p><span><span id="docs-internal-guid-37d2a550-7fff-ee7e-80e1-28d37bcde847"><span>The Catalan parliament has been paying around &euro;1.7 million a year for a decade to public servants already retired. A story broken by the newspaper Ara explains that the salaries are up to &euro;150,000 gross per year.
