07-Dec-21: 'Children aged 5 and above will be offered vaccines soon'

<p><span id="docs-internal-guid-4b9e75fd-7fff-4c1d-4232-f4c546faca63"><span>Covid vaccines have been approved for children as young as 5 years of age in Spain. This comes as Catalan authorities seek to prolong the current pandemic restrictions for a further two weeks.</span></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><span>After the European Medicines Agency approved the Pfizer paediatric vaccine, Spain&rsquo;s public health committee today greenlit their use in children aged between 5 and 11, while vaccines have already been approved for 12s and above. Administration of the jabs is expected to begin next week.</span></p> <p dir="ltr"><span>Just over 56% of internationals living in Catalonia are vaccinated, a significantly lower rate than the average. People coming from South and Central America top of the rankings, while Eastern European nationals have some of the lowest rates of vaccination.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-56c2fa2e-7fff-ab1c-f52f-cb5f376ddc65"><span>The Catalan government today requested a two-week extension of the pandemic restrictions currently in place, including showing Covid passes to enter bars, restaurants, gyms, and care homes. If approved by courts, this will mean they will last until Christmas Eve, at least. </span></span></p> <p><span><span id="docs-internal-guid-16024931-7fff-c35e-9815-1a5e6f4e9228"><span>Toymakers assure there will be no shortage this Christmas despite global supply chain issues. They say the holiday campaign was planned for months, with potential setbacks and delays already worked around. </span></span></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><span>An ancient Greek kitchen has been discovered in the archaeological site in Empuries, in northern Catalonia.&nbsp;</span>Dating back to the 6th century BC, when the ancient city was founded, it is thought to be related to a shrine in the area, possibly dedicated to the goddess Demeter.</p> <p><span>&nbsp;</span></p> / ACN
