Telefónica plans layoffs for over 6,000 employees across seven subsidiaries
Spanish telecoms giant holds talks with unions

Telefónica anticipates that layoffs (EROs in Spanish employment law) across its seven subsidiaries will affect a total of 6,088 employees.
On Tuesday, the final negotiation committees with the remaining unions were held, confirming the total number of planned layoffs.
The most affected subsidiary is Telefónica España, with 3,649 job cuts, followed by Telefónica Móviles (1,124), Telefónica SA (378), Movistar+ (297), Telefónica Soluciones (267), Telefónica Innovación Digital (233), and Global Solutions (140).
The latest figures released on Tuesday were for Telefónica Innovación Digital, which has a workforce of 993 employees, and Telefónica SA, which employs 1,160 people.
From the moment the negotiation committees are established, there is a 30-day period to negotiate the final number of layoffs and compensation terms.
Unions are demanding that any measures taken be implemented as a strictly voluntary process based on early retirements.
Telefónica already carried out an ERO last year, which affected 3,420 employees, 30% fewer than initially planned.
The total cost of that workforce reduction amounted to €1.3 billion before taxes.
The Spanish government owns 10% of the operator through the State Industrial Holdings Company (SEPI).
The most affected subsidiary is the largest, Telefónica España, with 41% of its workforce impacted. It manages fixed telecommunications services and infrastructure.
The television platform Movistar+ has 32.45% of employees included in the layoffs, followed by Telefónica Móviles, with 31.34% of staff affected.
